KIMBO Design Year in Review: Celebrating 2017

2017 was another banner year for KIMBO Design. With new clients, designs, and achievements, we wanted to recap our favourite projects from this year. We also wanted to go over the media recognition and community impact projects that shaped our year.

KIMBO Design Year in Review: Projects

Design Projects

Our biggest project this past year was ongoing work with the Ambleside-Dundarave Business Improvement Association. As their marketing and branding partner, we assisted in their mission to revitalize West Vancouver’s commercial communities. This included their new brand, street banners for summer and the holidays, and our ongoing work on refreshing their website. There was also an exciting brand launch event back in June. Stay tuned for further creative projects between KIMBO and the ADBIA.

Another project we undertook this year was our fourth straight year branding Cystic Fibrosis Canada’s ’65 Roses’ Gala. This year’s theme was East Meets West, a South Asian-inspired night of dinner and dancing. Our team is proud of our connection with this event, and our continued support of it. 2017 also included our continued work with Golden Acres Honey. We designed the packaging for their new premium product, Iced Honey. Our design incorporated the branding that we had previously created for Golden Acres, with a more luxurious touch to show the product’s prestige.

Our work with government clients continued as well. We produced the Tackling Poverty Together report, a Canadian Federal Government project. The report was an 192 page overview and analysis of six Canadian cities with high poverty rates. We worked alongside Ference & Co. to design the data and research that they did, creating an accessible and vibrant final product.

Whether it was a brand refresh for a local chapter of an international union, branding an authentic Neapolitan pizzeria, or a political women’s advocacy campaign, KIMBO Design completed many exciting projects for exciting clients. We are incredibly proud of the creativity we used to solve our clients’ problems through design.

Website Projects

Coast Mental Health donate page

The three main websites we produced this year were for the Kwantlen Faculty Association (KFA), Vantage Living, and Coast Mental Health. These websites showcased new features that we created for our clients. The KFA website included a custom voting system, to help the KFA run their elections. Coast Mental Health has an integrated donation page for their fundraising efforts. Vantage Living has extended accessibility features, for their elderly target clients. These were just a few of the functionalities we created to meet our clients’ needs in 2017.

We also continued work with some of our past website clients, as part of an effort to evolve their websites with their organizations. We expanded the FAST BC website to include new features for helping them pair skilled immigrants with prospective employers. Additionally, we assisted the BC Office of the Senior’s Advocate with a big data gathering project. They needed to poll BC’s seniors about their experience in retirement communities, and we assisted with a platform for showcasing the findings.

2017 was also a year of NationBuilder websites for KIMBO. NationBuilder is a CMS that includes built-in features for running political campaigns. We produced several of these websites this year, and plan on making them a priority in the coming years. Growing our expertise in both WordPress and NationBuilder is part of our commitment to expanding our skills.

KIMBO Design Year in Review: Accolades

2017 was also a big year for recognition of our work and growth. We were #71 on the PROFIT 500 list of Canada’s Fastest-Growing Companies, based on five-year revenue growth. This was published in Maclean’s and on CanadianBusiness.com. KIMBO also ranked #1 on Business in Vancouver’s Biggest Graphic Design Companies list. We were #22 on BIV’s Fastest-Growing Companies list. In April, our Move Up Prince George website was Runner-Up for Best Website Design/UX at Business in Vancouver’s Western Canada Marketing & PR Awards. Just this past month, the Huffington Post published an article on Kim Pickett as part of their ‘Pioneers for Change’ column. The column outlines the social impact of successful entrepreneurs.

KIMBO Design Year in Review: Community Impact

Another standout aspect of this year at KIMBO was community impact. We continue to influence Vancouver through art and design. In August, we sponsored the work of muralists David Ullock and Douglas Nhung as part of the 2017 Vancouver Mural Festival. This event is an important part of sprucing up public space in Vancouver. We couldn’t have been happier to lend a hand. KIMBO Design is also the lead sponsor of the Vancouver Art Gallery’s ongoing True Nordic exhibition. This is a showcase of the influence that Scandinavian design has had on Canadian design. Sponsoring both of these events was a blast. These projects are part of KIMBO Design’s mission to integrate art, design and culture with our agency practices.

Thanks to all of you who participated in making 2017 one of KIMBO Design’s best years yet. We look forward to another year of great designs, websites, campaigns, clients, and creativity in 2018. Happy Holidays to all, and all the best in the New Year.
