It’s been another great year here at KIMBO. Since it was stocked full of new clients, designs, websites, and campaigns, we wanted to take a minute to recap some of this year’s projects that we’re really proud of. While it’s important to reflect on the year’s achievements, we never want to become stagnant. So in addition to the KIMBO Design year in review, we will forecast some of the trends that will shape our work in 2017.
KIMBO Design Year in Review: Projects & Accolades
The biggest project we completed this year was the B.C. Ministry of Agriculture Exporter Directory. Combining a massive industry outreach campaign with the task of coordinating and designing the 100+ page document, the Directory was a chance to utilize our project management process. After paring down the Ministry supplier list to eligible global exporters, we created a sleek, colour-coded design approach, to organize the directory by product and provide a frame for the vibrant photography. The Ministry staff and exporters were incredibly pleased with the final document.
2016 marked the 3rd year of our partnership with the Lower Mainland chapter of Cystic Fibrosis Canada. We once again provided event branding for their signature event, the 65 Roses Gala. This year’s gala had a Roaring 20’s/Great Gatsby theme, and all of the branding elements we provided complemented the decor and outfits of the guests. This created an authentic yet modern atmosphere for the evening. The entire KIMBO team attended the gala, and we enjoyed a great night of eating, drinking and dancing.
We also created two brand packaging designs this year. McKenzie’s Country Farm Honey needed a modernized look to market their range of honeys, and we provided a design that covered their whole product line, distinguishing the varieties with colourful accents. Ornative Tableware needed two brands for their luxury flatware products. We provided the fun and stylish, customer-oriented Nuvaware, and the sophisticated, restaurant and hotel-targeted Woden.
While pride in our work and client satisfaction drives our passion for great design, it’s always nice to have our work recognized with awards. This year, our Move Up Prince George campaign won a Gold Excellence in Economic Development Award from the International Economic Development Council, and the Campaigns Category at the Design Edge Redgee Awards.
Year in Review: Trends For 2017
Social media allows everyone an outlet for their opinion. Integrating these opinions into your marketing or design strategy has become increasingly important. Businesses and organizations must involve their staff and members in the creative and strategic processes, to reach a lasting consensus on their new brand, website, or marketing campaign. This is why we have increased our focus on data-driven market research. Quantitative and qualitative data collection is easier and more cost-effective than ever, so using it to establish strategic and creative foundations for your work is essential. The online age has made people more entitled than ever, so listening to them while you create will reduce the potential for conflict and dissatisfaction, and result in iconic, lasting visual identities.
Another avenue we’re exploring for 2017 is drone photography. The availability of drones means that expansive, panoramic imagery and video, which used to be reserved for blockbuster-budget films, is now available to anyone. Since KIMBO obsesses over creating strategic visual experiences, the possibility of incorporating this valuable asset into our designs is extremely exciting. Whether it’s an overhead of new real estate development, a shot of the Vancouver skyline to anchor your business in the local market, or an all-encompassing nature shot to showcase the beauty of your city or town, there is a definite value in this new technology. We are eager to pass it on to our clients.
2016 was another great year in the ongoing growth of our agency, and we hope that this KIMBO Design year in review provided a snapshot of some of our successes and plans for the future.
