Kim Pickett is supporting YWCA Metro Vancouver’s preventing violence against women program. Kim has recently been announced as a 2013 YWCA Women of Distinction Awards nominee. As a nominee for this prestigious award, she is eligible to also receive the YWCA Connecting the Community Award. If she wins, Scotiabank will designate $10,000 towards preventing violence against women.
YWCA’s Connecting the Community Award is a unique opportunity for nominees to raise awareness about social issues. Nominees select the YWCA program they want to support and promote it via social media, email marketing or other channels. Winners are determined by an online vote.
Kim has chosen to support YWCA’s preventing violence against women program. YWCA provides many programs and services for women who are victims of physical and mental abuse. This support is critical for helping women rebuild their lives away from their abusive partners.
Kim believes strongly that moving away from an abusive situation is something all women can do if they have access to a supportive team. She has chosen to raise awareness about this issue because she believes that YWCA’s programs and services are integral to helping women get the support they need to escape abuse and rebuild their lives. As a women entrepreneur who specializes in marketing to women, she understands the inextricable link between women’s issues and women’s business development.
This contest also presents a real opportunity to connect with and engage people through social media. Social media is a vehicle that should be exploited by non-profits, and Kim and the KIMBO Design team are thrilled to leverage social for a social cause.
