Ministry of Jobs: Stronger BC

Project Overview:

KIMBO Design partnered with the Ministry of Jobs, Economic Development and Innovation to deliver a suite of strategic communication materials across multiple initiatives. These included the Maritime Industries Strategy, Support Infographics, Manufacturing Action Plan, B.C.’s Trade Diversification Strategy, Rural Economic Diversification and Infrastructure Program, B.C. Manufacturing Jobs Fund, and the Board Appointment Orientation Package, among others.

Each project required the development of highly visual, accessible documents intended for both print and web use. KIMBO’s role spanned content layout, custom iconography, image curation, and document design—ensuring all pieces aligned with the Ministry’s brand guidelines while being engaging, intuitive, and accessible to a broad audience.

What We Delivered:

  • Accessible design
  • Photography curation
  • Iconography

  • Illustrations
  • Document layout

The Challenge:

The primary challenge was designing a diverse collection of government communications that were visually cohesive, compliant with strict accessibility standards, and adaptable across various formats. Each initiative targeted different sectors and stakeholders, requiring tailored visual storytelling while still fitting within a single, recognizable brand identity.

Additionally, the Ministry’s communications needed to meet the Government of B.C.’s accessibility standards. This meant all visuals and layouts had to be legible, screen-reader compatible, and navigable for individuals of all abilities—without compromising the aesthetic appeal or clarity of the content.

Our team worked with KIMBO to develop the B.C. Manufacturing Action Plan. We were very impressed with KIMBO’s attention to detail, quality of graphics, and adherence to tight deadlines. The level of communication was excellent and they provided regular status updates and worked with us in an iterative fashion to ensure the final product achieved our vision. We would happily work with KIMBO again in the future!

The Strategy:

KIMBO approached the challenge with a multi-pronged strategy:

  • Brand Alignment: We consistently applied the Ministry’s brand guide across all materials to reinforce familiarity and trust. This included careful selection of typography, colour palettes, and logo usage.
  • Custom Visuals: We created a library of tailored icons and curated imagery that resonated with each specific initiative, enhancing storytelling while maintaining a professional tone.
  • Accessible Design: All documents were designed with accessibility in mind, following government-mandated standards such as high contrast ratios, clear heading hierarchies, and alternative text for images. Layouts were tested for both screen and print environments.
  • Flexible Formats: Each deliverable was optimized for both digital distribution and professional print production, ensuring wide usability across platforms and accessibility needs.
