Feed BC is a provincial government initiative led by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food, aimed at increasing the presence of British Columbia (B.C.) food in hospitals, residential care facilities, public post-secondary institutions, and other government-supported facilities.
Through Feed BC, the Ministry collaborates across government departments and partners with stakeholders in the public sector, industry, and agriculture sectors to achieve the following objectives:
- Raise Awareness and Demand: Promote B.C. food products within public institutions and beyond.
- Support Producers: Enhance the capacity and market readiness of B.C. food and beverage producers and processors.
- Innovate Supply Chains: Develop value chain innovations and supply chain solutions to meet B.C. food demand.
- Monitor Progress: Measure, report, and promote the advancements and partnerships of Feed BC.
Increasing B.C. food in public institutions:
- Economic Support: Stimulates employment and sustains businesses for farmers, fishers, ranchers, and food processors throughout B.C.
- Enhancing Food Security: Strengthens the provincial food supply and bolsters resilience in the food system.
- Community Connection: Links patients, residents, students, workers, and clients to locally sourced food.
- Regional Economic Growth: Supports economic development across all regions of the province.
